Summer Institute

"We the Diverse People:  Cultural Encounters in the Pacific Northwest," is the Engaging the American Past 2004 Summer Institute.  This event allows over forty elementary teachers from the 2004 Dinner Colloquia to participate in a five day study of the regional, national, and international aspects of multicultural Pacific Northwest history. Held at Washington State University Vancouver, the Summer Institute enables teachers to deepen their knowledge of history through lectures, workshops, and a field trip, while collaborating with colleagues, historians, and educational specialists to develop lesson plans to use in their own classrooms.  Participants in the Summer Institute will form the core of a network of elementary teachers throughout Southwest Washington who share advanced teaching methods with colleagues in the coming year.
