We the Diverse People: Cultural Encounters in the Pacific Northwest
2004 Summer Institute Goals
Increase participants' knowledge of the history of the Pacific Northwest region, with particular emphasis on the "encounters" or interactions among the diverse people who resided or sojourned here during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Increase participants' understanding of the ways in which historians locate, evaluate, and interpret the variety of sources that inform us and our students about the past.
Provide participants with time, resources, and mentoring to collaborate on the development of history lesson plans corresponding to Summer Institute content.
Foster post-Summer Institute outreach and networking activities for participants and colleagues in their schools and districts.
