We the Diverse People: Cultural Encounters in the Pacific Northwest

Lois Leveen

"Teaching America's Multicultural History"

The history of our country is a diverse, multi-cultural history that has been misconstrued to be the history of the white male.   From our childhood we are taught dehumanizing racial stereotypes about those other than the white majority.   Lois Leveen attempts to dispel these myths about race and encourages teachers to integrate multicultural content into their classrooms.   In giving four different levels of integration, the hope is that the students will build a social consciousness that will provide them with the ability to dispel these racial stigmas.
